Questions, Questions, Questions…

  • Typically, the initial session is either around 60 minutes or 90 minutes. If I am working with a couple I require the first session be 90 minutes because there is too much to cover in only 60 minutes. For individuals, I’ll often give them the option of which they would prefer. Subsequent sessions are either 60 or 90 minutes, depending on what the client prefers except for specific types of sessions. Discernment sessions for couples deciding whether to stay together or end the relationship are always 90 minutes. Specific sessions for those in sex addiction may span many hours.

  • Questions. Lots of questions. You’ve lived a lifetime and have a long history that I need to learn more about. The better I understand what has shaped you, the more effective I can be at addressing your needs. As I jokingly tell my clients, “I’m a therapist, so of course I need to talk about your childhood”. All of this helps me identify areas of work and goals for the time we work together.

  • Once we have setup a time to meet, I will email you a link so that you can access and complete all the necessary paperwork. Everything is handled electronically, so there’s no need to print anything. All forms must be completed a minimum of 24 hours before the initial session or the session will be cancelled.

  • The more frequently we meet, the more productive the work will be. That typically means meeting weekly. Because some clients are unable to meet weekly due to scheduling and finances, sometimes I will meet with clients every two weeks. As time progresses and improvements are made, many clients transition into meeting monthly or quarterly, but this is generally after many months of work.

  • That’s a very popular question that I’m asked, but also very subjective. Depending on what you wish to address, the number of session may range anywhere from 5 session up to 100+. For example, Discernment Counseling for couples deciding whether to stay together or end the relationship is never more than 5 sessions. Some trauma therapy can be done in as little as 3-4 sessions. While sex addiction counseling is generally not less than a year’s worth of counseling, if not longer.

  • I charge $175 for a 60 minute session and $300 for a 90 minute session. I do not take insurance, but upon request can provide you the necessary paperwork to file with your insurance for an out of network visit. You should check with your insurance on coverage as different insurances have different levels of coverage for mental health, including the number of sessions they will allow.

  • This is how I work best and nearly every client who is willing to try it finds it just as effective as being in-person. I’ve been seeing clients exclusively online for over 4 years and have utilized online session for over 7 years. I’ve actually worked virtually with clients across the country and across the world. I utilize Zoom to conduct sessions, allowing clients to meet from the safe, comforting environment of their own homes, according to their schedules. They do not lose drive time and sometimes even meet from their cars because of the flexibility it provides for their schedules. I am just as able to connect with my clients and can more easily share tools and materials electronically. If you’re unsure about meeting virtually then setup a consultation with me and you’ll get a chance to give it a test drive.
